Step 3 - Prove That You Have Met the Residency Requirements

To apply for Canadian citizenship, you must have lived in Canada as a PR for at least 4 years out of the 6 years (1,460 days) right before the day you apply. You must also be physically present for at least 183 days during each of four calendar years that are fully or partially within the six years immediately before the date of application.

You will need a copy of your results from the Residence Calculator to include in your citizenship application. You can also use it to find out if you have been in Canada long enough to apply for citizenship.

In addition, you cannot count time spent as a non-permanent resident (non-PR) toward residence for citizenship; must prove that you “intend to reside” in Canada.
